Nintendo's Wii U and 3DS see strong February sales over last year

Added: 13.03.2014 22:30 | 25 views | 0 comments

Full February NPD US sales data will be coming in shortly, but ahead of the official announcement, Nintendo sent a press release detailing some of their own highlights for last month.

Nintendo reports that both the Wii U and 3DS increased in sales over February of last year; the Wii U grew by 180% and the 3DS by 25%.

Nintendo attributes increased sales of the Wii U in the US to the success of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Nintendo's follow-up to their popular platformer Donkey Kong Country Returns sold 130,000 copies (including digital and physical sales), and it was the number four best-selling SKU for February.

The 3DS's continued strong performance was due in part to Bravely Default, which was the number two best-selling game SKU for February. Nintendo reports that the game "improved on the launch of Fire Emblem Awakening by more than 10 percent, selling more than 200,000 combined units in just over three weeks." And Pokemon X and Y continued to go strong with 130,000 more copies sold, bringing the game's lifetime sales total to 3.4 million in the US.

We'll have full NPD data, including a list of the top 10 selling games, and which console came out on top overall, later today.

Triverse writes, "This is a series that is similar to how Fire Emblem was handled, North American gamers didn't get a taste till the early 2000's. Fire Emblem came over on the Game Boy Advance for the first time while gamers on this side of the pond had to wait for Sega's ill-fated Dreamcast to receive an official Record of Lodoss War game. Now, thanks to fans, the Super Famicom version of Record of Lodoss War is available in English."

What's the appeal of character customization?

Added: 02.02.2014 5:16 | 44 views | 0 comments

GotGame: More franchises seem to be utilizing character creation in order to enhance the games experience like never before, such as Fire Emblem Awakening and Pokemon X/Y. Looking at this changing trend, a single question has been consistently nagging at me. Why is character creation becoming such a popular feature is so many genres?

oprainfall's Jonathan Higgins writes: "For the longest time, my gaming habits were pretty vanilla. I only owned Nintendo platforms, and I pretty much stuck with first/second-party titles. At the time, I felt it was slightly advantageous of me to do soI had much more respect for franchises like Fire Emblem than a lot of my peers, because truly complex games were difficult to find within my gaming regiment."

Record of Agarest War Review | Hardcore Droid

Hardcore Droid: "Record of Agarest War is a tactical RPG where, over the course of five generations, you marry members of your party and play as your own children. It promises a hundred hour playtime and a deep level of character customization. And while its true that Record of Agarest War does allow for all those things, what sounds like it could be the next Fire Emblem is limited to a very narrow window of niche appeal by some significant mechanical problems and a disappointing execution of its plot."

Chriss Top 5 2013

Added: 04.01.2014 13:16 | 7 views | 0 comments

2013 was an interesting year. Alot of great movies and games were released as well as new consoles, but ultimately what Chris remembered about the year is the new tech that he grabbed. He purchased a new Alienware laptop, a new Xbox One and have been enjoying watching Blu Rays in 3D. But probably the most shocking thing to him was how much he has enjoyed his new Nintendo 2DS. There are a lot of very good games on the handheld that he would have never known about if it werent for his brother Chuck looking out for him. From Pokemon to Animal Crossing, Shin Megami to Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem to Donkey kong; the Nintendo 2DS came out of nowhere and changed from something he only had a mild interest in to something he could take with mim everywhere and can play at anytime.
